The story of Chrome began in the year 2001 when Mikko Suuronen (vocals),
Risto Ylönen (bass) and Pete Hokkanen (guitar) decided to form a metal band. As
a product of lunacrous rehearsing and songwriting they came up with a bunch of
songs, slightly influenced by progressive rock. Three of those songs ended up on
the “Irony” – promo, which was finished in the year 2002.
The band made some gigs, mainly at local rock and metal happenings and on those
occations Joni Romo played drums as a session drummer and Saku Manninen (Exit
Wounds) played the 2nd guitar as a session guitarist. Soon Joni Romo joined the
band as a full time member and the problems concerning the deficit of a proper
live line-up were solved.
In the autumn of 2003 it was time to begin the recordings of the new material
and a course was set to the studios of Orimattila – Institute. Harri Nykänen (Reamer)
both recorded and mixed the demo which contained four, a lot more aggressive and
“stoner” - sounding songs than their predecessors on “Irony”. The demo was
entitled “Prescription for Bullets” but it was never publicly distributed.
Inspired by the new material, Chrome made a few gigs in Kangasniemi but also in
nearby towns. In the autumn of 2004 Jere Laitinen joined the band as the 2nd
guitarist. The music started to get heavier and more brutal nuances were
emphasized. Even though the new material differed radically from the earlier,
this new direction felt like the most natural for the band. In the winter they
headed again to the studios at Orimattila and Harri Nykänen once again
engineered the whole project. The whole session was painless and the result was
four merciless thrash songs which ended up on the latest Chrome Ep, “Ground Zero”
that was finally released in the summer 2005.
